Purpose:
The Interlibrary Loan (ILL) program at the
College of Eastern Utah Library allows patrons access to materials owned by
other libraries. These would be items CEU Library does not have in its
own collection.
Eligibility:
Interlibrary Loans are available to all
Library patrons who do not have overdue items and/or late fines on their
library account.
Charges/Financial
Responsibility:
The requesting patron is responsible for any
charges or fees required by the lending Library. CEU Library fees only
recover money spent on shipping, photocopies or faxes. Fees for
Interlibrary Loan services are to be paid in full when the item is picked
up. Please be sure to type in the amount you are will to pay on your
request form. If the item cost is more than the amount you agree to, you
will be notified before any items are requested. CEU Library Interlibrary
Loan fees are as follows:
-Books:
$1.00 each
-Articles/Photocopies: $
.10 per page
-Faxed
Photocopies: $1.00 per article up to 10 pages, $2.00 up to 20
pages, $3.00 up to 30 pages and etc.
Submitting Requests:
In order to request an Interlibrary Loan, a
patron must use the appropriate Interlibrary loan form found on the top of
this page. Please fill out the form completely. Please complete and submit
a separate form for each item being requested.
It is assumed that patrons have looked at
the CEU Library holdings and that the item is not available from any library
in the CEU system. If the item needed is owned by the CEU San Juan Campus
Library, please use the Interagency Loan form. If the item is owned by the
CEU Museum, the patron will have to check out the item from the Museum.
Patrons
should not expect to obtain titles listed in the Library On-line catalog
that are declared lost or missing.
Material Availability:
The following types of material often are not
available through Interlibrary Loan. It is up to the individual libraries
whether they will loan these types of items.
-Recently published books (books
published within the current year).
-Entire volumes or issues of
periodicals.
-Reference works.
-Rare books or original
manuscripts.
-Newspapers or other bulky
materials in their original format.
-Works of genealogy or heraldry.
-Some doctoral dissertations and
masters thesis.
-Multimedia (CD’s, DVD’s, Video,
Cassettes & etc.)
-Some microfilm and/or microfiche.
Time Required To Receive A Loan:
Loans usually take one to three weeks to
arrive. Please allow a minimum of one week when requesting a loan. Be sure
to complete all deadline information requested. Indicate the date after
which material cannot be used.
Number Of Requests:
CEU Library patrons may request up to five
(5) requests per week per patron. You should not, however, request more
loans/books than you can expect to finish within any four-week period.
Please plan to return the book within the time allowed by the lending
institution.
Loan Period/Renewals:
The lending library determines the loan
period and renewal policy for its materials. Borrowers (including faculty)
can expect to keep most materials for four weeks.
Researchers should make every effort to
complete their work with the Interlibrary Loan material within the original
loan period. If a renewal request becomes necessary, the Interlibrary Loan
office must be notified five to ten days before the due date. Interlibrary
Loan must contact the lending library for permission to renew. Only one
renewal per item can be requested. It is up to the lending library if they
will renew item or not.
Picking Up Material:
You will be notified by telephone or e-mail
when material has arrived. You may pick up materials at the Circulation
Desk. It is at this time that all charges will need to be paid. Loans not
picked up by the due date will be returned to the lending library and
charged accordingly to your library account. Photocopies not picked up
within seven (7) days of being notified will be mailed to the address given
on the Interlibrary Loan form and charges will be applied to your library
account for copies made as well $1.00 to cover any shipping costs.
Special Loan Conditions:
The lending library establishes the
conditions under which borrowed material may be used. Items may be
restricted for use in the library only, photocopying may be prohibited,
etc. A borrower’s failure to comply with the conditions of a loan could
jeopardize his/her Interlibrary Loan privileges and/or those of the CEU
Library with other lending institutions.
Returns/Recalls:
Please
return all Interlibrary Loan materials to the Circulation Desk. Please note
that Interlibrary Loan materials are subject to recall by the lending
library at any time. Failure to return a recalled item by the date
indicated may result in an overdue fine of $1.00 per day from the date
notified. Failure to return Interlibrary Loan materials or to pay fines
will result in suspension of an individual’s library privileges and may
result in holds placed against grades or graduation.
Copyright:
The CEU Library must comply with the
Copyright Law (Title 17, U. S. Code) and the accompanying guidelines
when requesting photocopied material. You are required to read the
following copyright restrictions before submitting any requests:
The copyright
law of the United States [Title 17, United States Code] governs the
making of photocopies or other reproductions of copyrighted materials.
Under certain conditions specified by the law, libraries and archives are
authorized to furnish a photocopy or other reproduction. One of these
specified conditions is that the photocopy or reproduction is not to be
“used for any purpose other than private study, scholarship or research.
“If a user makes a request for, or later uses, a photocopy or reproduction
for purposes in excess of “fair use,” that user may be liable for copyright
infringement. This institution reserves the right to refuse to accept a
copying order if, in its judgment, fulfillment of the order would involve
violation of copyright law.
