Who can use ILL?
CEU Faculty, Staff, Students, Visiting Faculty, Visiting Researchers, and IAS Fellows for their work at CEU.
How can I submit an ILL request?

Getting materials on time
If you wish to receive your ILL books before the Winter Break (20 December, 2018), please submit your requests by 30 November, 2018.
Books borrowed from abroad may take 2-3 weeks to arrive.
Most partner libraries provide limited ILL services during the holiday season.
In case you will be out of the country for a while during the Winter Break, please indicate in the note field on the ILL form when you will be able to pick up the requested item.
- A minimum of 2-3 weeks should be allowed for a book availability.
- Standard journal articles arrive within 3-5 workdays, but it can take longer.
What if I need a book/article urgently?
Indicate the urgency using the “Additional notes” field.
How do I know that the librarians got my request?
An acknowledging message appears on the screen upon submission (“Your request has been sent to the library”).
Can I cancel my request?
Yes, if it has not yet been processed. Please send us an e-mail.
What if I am unable to submit my request on the online form?
Check your card/account at the Information Desk.
How can I borrow books from CEU-ELTE Medieval Library (Call number: “Medieval Lib”)?
All CEU students, faculty, and staff can submit ILL requests through the links on this page. History/Medieval Department students may also borrow books directly from the CEU-ELTE Medieval Library. Books with status “ELTE USE ONLY” are not eligible for intercampus loan but can be used at the CEU-ELTE Medieval Library. Please note that the delivery may take 2-3 days.
How much time does it take to receive an ILL-request?
Delivery time depends on several factors. After the approval of the Department, it usually takes about 8-14 working days for books and 3-5 working days for articles to arrive. These are only estimates, it may take longer.
Who asks the Department for permission to acquire a book/article from abroad?
How will I know, that the requested ILL-material arrived?
You will receive an e-mail notification.
Do I always get the ILL-articles in electronic format?
In most cases, yes, otherwise we will supply you with a printout.
How long can I keep an ILL-book?
As a rule for two weeks but it may vary. Photocopies are yours to keep.
Is it possible to renew an ILL?
What if I do not return an ILL on time?
You will receive an overdue notice. Please return materials on time. CEU Library needs to maintain good relationships with its partners. CEU Library risks overdue charges.
What if I lose an ILL-book?
Report the loss immediately. All fines on lost or damaged materials are payable by the borrower.
